To all my fellow Conguitos lovers:
On my recent trip to Spain (July 2007) I was pleasantly surprised when I went to the store for my customary purchase of a bag of Conguitos, and lo and behold -- I found my familiar treat with a new depiction of the little Congan boy. The same delicious candy comes in the same bag, same colors, but now he has undergone a slight change -- a lip reduction. Unlike the Hollywood stars where collagen enhanced lips are all the rage, it appears that political correctness has finally reached Spain; the candy company has decided to appease many people, the majority of whom I presume to be foreigners, who have complained about the "racist" depiction of Africans on the famous bag of candy.
I share with you a picture of the old (smaller bag) Conguitos and the newer version, which just hit the stores this summer in Spain. Please let me know what you think. Regardless, it is a delicious snack of peanuts and dark chocolate, one that I long for as soon as I leave the country and finish my 3-4 bags at home. Does anyone know where/how I could buy some in the United States?
